Argentina Travel Guide

Most travelers are attracted to Argentina by a combination of culture, cuisine and countryside. They don’t leave disappointed. Argentina is massive. It’s the 8th largest country in the world, and the largest Spanish speaking country by land mass. The top sites to visit are spread across vast distances, so hop on a plane, grab a bottle of Argentine wine, and explore these top travel picks:

Buenos Aires - The cultural and political capital of Argentina is a bustling metropolis with a European vibe. Most trips to Argentina start and finish here.
Iguazu Falls - Don’t miss one of the world’s most impressive waterfalls which sits on the border between Argentina and Brazil.
El Calafate - Stay in luxurious Patagonia lodges as you explore Perito Moreno glacier and Glacier National Park. Nearby access the towering Fitz Roy Range and plunging glaciers of Glacier National Park.
Ushuaia - In Tierra del Fuego at the “End of the world” you’ll find the charming small city of Ushuaia where the majority of the world’s cruises to Antarctica depart.
Salta - This picturesque small city is surrounded by breathtaking hiking and trekking opportunities.
Wine country - The Mendoza and Cafayate areas are the hottest wine tasting regions in Argentina and give a savory glimpse into the country’s exceptional culinary traditions.

Argentina Travel FAQs

Do I need a visa to travel to Argentina?
All visitors must have a valid passport to enter Argentina and proof of onward passage. Your passport should be valid for at least six months after your departure date. There is no longer an Argentina reciprocity fee charged to citizens from the United States, Canada, or Australia.

For all other nationalities, please consult with your nearest embassy or consulate for information on entry requirements. Entry requirements change with surprising frequency. It is each traveler's responsibility to check with the consulate for the most up-to-date visa information.

Is tipping customary in Argentina?
Although not required, offering a small tip for services is a way to show appreciation for excellent work. In restaurants, you can add a 10% to the service charge that is included; for guides, we recommend between $2-10/ day; drivers can be tipped $1-3/ day.

What is the internet access like in Argentina?
Throughout most of Argentina, you will have access to high speed and/or wireless internet, including in most of the hotels. If you would like to make sure that the hotel where you’d like to stay has internet access, we’d be happy to let you know. In more remote parts of Argentina, like Patagonia and much of the southern wilds, there is not internet access.
Can I use my cell phone while in Argentina?
It all depends on your carrier, but roaming plans tend to be very expensive. If you have a GSM phone with a chip and it is unlocked you can simply buy a pre-paid chip once you arrive from one of the major carriers – Movistar, Nextel, or Personal. However, in some of the more isolated southern regions of the country, like Patagonia, Torres del Paine National Park or Tierra del Fuego, it can be impossible to get a signal.
