Day 1: Arrive in Managua

Arrive to the Managua airport where you are met and transferred to your hotel.

Day 2: Managua| Isla de Ometepe, Biosphere Reserve

After breakfast at the hotel, transfer to the San Jorge port to take the public ferry to Moyogalpa, which is one of the main ports on the lush tropical island of Ometepe located in Lake Nicaragua. This island comprises two volcanoes, Concepción and Maderas, and covers an area of 276 square kilometers.

In the afternoon, go on a kayaking tour on the Istian River, where your knowledgeable local guide will take you along the lake's shores and then into a creek in hopes of seeing monkeys, caimans, turtles, and a wide variety of colorful birds. The tour is adjustable according to the conditions; if the creek is quite dry, part of the tour will be a guided walking excursion in the dry forest to spot wildlife.

Day 3: Biking Ometepe Island Tour

Exploring Ometepe by bike is an exciting and adventurous way to discover the island's uniqueness. The most commonly used path is the recently repaved road between Moyogalpa and Altagracia. Encounter more local cyclists than cars as you cycle past charming villages, banana plantations, and stunning viewpoints. The island's rich soil and lush tropical vegetation grow alongside the road.

Day 4: Volcano & Artisan market of Masaya | Sunset Boat trip, Nicaragua Lake

After breakfast at the hotel, return to Moyogalpa to catch the regular ferry to San Jorge Port.

Today's destination is Granada, a colorful and stunning colonial city. During the trip, make a stop in Masaya to explore Masaya Volcano National Park, where you can see the active crater and its surrounding area. You can also observe the unique flora and fauna of the park. A few minutes away, there is a market where you can purchase souvenirs made by Nicaraguan artisans.

In the afternoon, enjoy a Sunset Boat trip through some of the islands in Lake Nicaragua, which were formed by the impressive Mombacho volcano.

Day 5: Mombacho volcano Reserve | Granada City Tour

After breakfast at the hotel, the day will begin with a visit to the Mombacho volcano nature reserve, a one-of-a-kind place with stunning landscapes and diverse flora and fauna. The weather is refreshingly cool, and visitors can hike along the 1.5 km El Crater trail and take part in a Canopy tour. A typical lunch is included at Hacienda El Progresso house.

In the afternoon, return to Granada to see the main attractions of the city, such as the colonial-style churches, houses with beautiful patios, and the Central Park, which serves as the heart of the city, among other noteworthy sites.

Day 6: Return Home

  • 1 Breakfast
This morning you embark on the ferry back across the lake and continue on to Managua to connect with your flight home. Your flight must depart after 12 PM.

Beyond expectations! Then again we weren't sure what to expect. Lovely stay at the lodge, met other like-minded travelers (many had their trips planned by Adventure Life) and the owner was a gracious hostess. It felt like you were one happy family, visiting with a favorite aunt.
