Day 1: Depart La Paz | Chucura | Buena Vista

  • 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Your hotel pick-up is scheduled for 7:00am. Travel in a private vehicle to "La Cumbre" at 4,725m where we can observe the plateau's characteristic fauna, such as llamas, alpacas, and gulls. See water carriers that are believed to bring good luck. Afterwards, head to the village of Chucura, located at 3,695m above sea level, where we will begin our trek. Along the way, we will pass by pre-Columbian buildings as we descend into a more vegetated area. After about 7 hours of trekking, we will arrive at our campsite in the hamlet of "Buena Vista".

Day 2: Buena Vista | Sandillani

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch, 1 Dinner
Today, you begin your hike after a well deserved rest, equipped with lighter clothes. The trail is still well-preserved and includes both uphill and downhill sections, showcasing the creativity and skill of the Tiwanaku culture during the era before the Incas arrived. These paths were used to connect different ecological systems, allowing for active trade and the transportation of goods to upland subtropical areas. As you continue your trek, cross clear-water rivers that are tributaries of the Amazon system via bridges. In the afternoon, the vegetation will become denser as you enter the cloud forest, see a variety of wildflowers and great views. After trekking for approximately 6-7 hours, arrive at the campsite in the village of Sandillani.

Day 3: Sandillani | Chairo 1.264m

  • 1 Breakfast, 1 Lunch
Today the area becomes wet and the vegetation more abundant. The path defies the geography of the area by taking us down winding turns. Along the way, we'll see cascades of water that locals use for consumption and agricultural work. Subtropical banana palms and coffee plantations, as well as tropical birds and butterflies, will also be visible. After trekking for approximately 3 hours, we'll reach the end of our journey and arrive at the small village of Chairo at an elevation of 1,264m. Your driver awaits you to return you to La Paz for the evening.

This was my first experience with Adventure Life - and I couldn't have been more pleased with the trip. The guides and local staff in both Buenos Aires and Uruguay were terrific - extremely helpful and accommodating. I really enjoyed meeting the friendly staff in Buenos Aires in person (I left my bags with them for the afternoon).
