Highlights of the Lake District 
One of the best ways to experience this fantastically scenic part of Chile is on an active tour. Here are a few of the many activities we offer on our Lake District expeditions:

Climate in the Lake District

November-April has seasonal averages around 16-20C (60-68F) with little rainfall.

May- October is a markedly rainier season with lower average temperatures, with an average low in July around 8C (46F). 

General notes about climate
The Lake District is an expansive region of Chile, comprising a large portion of its central territory. When packing you should be prepared for the wind-swept climates and lower temperatures of Patagonia and southern Chile as well as the warmer desert climates and brisk mountain climates of central and northern Chile.

The Wines of Chile
Thanks to a privileged geographic location with a climate similar to the Mediterranean, Chile is quickly eaerning a name as one of the world's up-and-coming wine destinations. With domestic varieties and some vines imported from France over 200 years ago, Chile has its own distinct brands of:

White wine:

• Sauvignon Blanc
• Chardonnay, Riesling
• Gewürztraminer
• Chenin-Blanc
• Semillón.

Red wine:

• Cabernet Sauvignon
• Merlot
• Pinot Noir.

Where to Stay in the Lake District

• The town of Puerto Varas has a great selection of hotels & boutique lodging and even an upgrade offer if you're hoping for a more luxurious stay.
• Puerto Montt is another up-and-coming destination of its own and a great lodging for both Patagonia & Lake District tours.
• Pucon is a great base if you're hoping for an active tour!

Getting around the Lake District
It's fairly easy to drive to the various destinations in the Lake District, but you, so buses and cars are a common way to get around.

Several of our itineraries include just one day in the Lake District, so it could simply be a stop already included on your cruise. Other tours are land-based excursions across Chile with a few days in the Lake District. Regardless of which itinerary you take, your transportation is included in your package with Adventure Life. 

Chiloe Island

This is one of the largest islands off Chile's Pacific coast and features a slew of attractions and activities, including most prominently hiking, kayaking, andhorseback riding.

The island is also home to a rich cultural heritage, including a mix of interesting museums and Jesuit churches dating back to the 17th and 18th centuries.

On the northern coasts of this island, you'll find Monumento Natural Islotes de Puñihuil, where Humboldt and Magellanic penguins can be found, and with a good pair of binoculars, you just might catch a mighty blue whale breaching the surface.
