A Thailand tour will entice you with breathtaking beaches, remote mountain villages, and the friendly Thai people. The capital city of Bangkok is home to a booming population and the legendary Grand Palace, where the renowned Emerald Buddha rests peacefully. Multisport adventure tours will give you the chance to raft, hike, bike, and paddle your way through the striking countryside. Thai cuisine is diverse and unique, and some tours focus exclusively on the taste of Thailand. In the idyllic regions around Phuket and Hong Islands, relaxing beaches will put your mind at ease and offer amazing snorkeling through vibrant coral reefs. The historic streets and Buddhist temples of Chiang Mai and the Elephant Nature Park are Adventure Life staff favorites.

In the heart of Southeast Asia, Thailand is home to distinct cultures and unique opportunities to get to know the local traditions, flavors, and customs, by exploring sites such as:
  • Bangkok – The capital of Thailand offers an engaging mix of markets, authentic Thai restaurants, museums, temples, and the Grand Palace, all on the backdrop of its buzzing city streets.
  • Chiang Mai – Become immersed in the country’s rich lore and legends through the ancient architecture, markets, and ceremonies that you will see performed here.
  • Phuket Island – This tropical island combines history with active travel, giving you opportunities to bike, visit local markets, tour Old Phuket, or swim in the gentle waters.
  • Phang Nga Bay – Enjoy the gentle breeze of paradise on this idyllic beach as you snorkel, sail, and stroll around this tranquil bay.
  • Elephant Nature ParkGet up close and personal with elephants that have been rescued or have retired from work for humans as you get a chance to feed them and even learn how to bathe them if you want.
  • Country Markets – Take a little piece of Thailand home with you from these traditional markets, some of which actually float on the lakes and are accessible by boat.
  • Grand Palace – The most important landmark in the country, the Palace served as the official home of the King of Siam (now Thailand) for more than a century and is still used for important political events in the country.

Thailand Travel FAQs

Do I need a visa to travel to Thailand?
US citizens do not need a visa to visit Thailand for 30 days or less. Check the visa requirements for more specific information.

Is tipping customary in Thailand?
Tipping around 10 percent with whatever change you might have is considered customary.

What is internet access like in Thailand?
Thailand's access to the internet is growing. Hotels and ships most likely will have WiFi, but it is not guaranteed. It's also not likely that you will have internet access in the rural parts of the country. There are cyber cafes where you can get access too in the bigger cities. Speed isn't always fast, and internet access is not usually free no matter where you go.

Can I use my cell phone while in Thailand?
You can use your GSM-enabled phone in Thailand most easily if you ask your service provider to unlock it and then purchase a SIM chip when you arrive in Thailand. Alternatives would be asking your provider if there are long distance or international plans, or you could simply connect to WiFi when it's available.

Do I need power adapters?
Thailand has 220v power with Types A,B, and C outlets (US-style and Europe style). You won't likely need a power converter for most devices, but you may need a plug adapter.

What are the toilets like in Thailand?
In the more developed parts, and in hotels and ships, you'll probably have normal western style toilets. You might encounter squat toilets, which take some getting used to but are exactly what they sound like. No matter which ones you are using, you should toss the toilet paper in the waste basket next to the toilet rather than in the bowl itself. Bring your own toilet paper, just in case.

Can I drink the water in Thailand?
Drinking water in Thailand should either be purified or bottled, and you will always have access to it. However, you should only bathe with the tap water - and you should never drink water directly from the tap.

Are credit cards accepted in Thailand? Will I be able to find ATMs?
Most major credit cards are accepted throughout Thailand in the busy city areas and most stores and restaurants. Individual or smaller scale vendors and areas in rural Thailand might not accept credit cards. ATMs are similarly distributed.

Should I purchase travel insurance?
Definitely! It's always a good idea to have travel insurance just in case, and we have some excellent deals with TravelGuard. Find more information on the Once You're Booked page.
